About TCMTraditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the oldest continuously practiced medical system in the world. It originates from China more than 4000 years ago. It is not only a therapeutic medicine but it is more a preventive medicine since its birth. For example, in the Yellow Emperor’s classic of medicine (i.e. Huang Di Nei Jing), it states: “Shang Gong Zhi Wei Bing”. It means that the best doctor will cure the potential factor, which has not formed the disease yet. TCM is called “Zhong Yi (中醫)” in Chinese. Zhong has two meanings. One is Chinese itself and the other one is “the middle”. It implies “to restore the balance back in harmony”. Major theories include yinyang, five elements, meridian system and Zang Fu organ theory, etc. TCM sees every human as a unique vital system. It is formed with physical body, spirit and qi (i.e. vital energy). When this system is not in harmony, it will lead to the discomfort in human body physically and/or mentally. Through inquiring and diagnosis, the practitioners can identify the underlying pattern of disharmony. And, the treatment principle and methodology can be defined at the same time. TCM practices include a wide range of treatments such as acupuncture, moxa, herbal medicine, tuina, cupping, gua sha, qigong, and dietary therapy, etc. In my practice, I primarily offer acupuncture therapy. This ancient Chinese healing art can help us to restore our health and our internal balance back in order. |
